Fabulous Carrie Vaughn & Kitty Norville Contest

"Carrie Vaughn is on my auto-buy list. I don’t even care what the plot is, if it’s a Kitty Norville book I know I’ll love it. "
Vicky London, Vampire Genre

"
Kitty Raises Hell gripped my attention and wouldn’t let go until the final page - a must read for Kitty fans or anyone that enjoys richly rendered urban fantasy and superlative characters."
Doug Knipe, SciFi Guy

CONTEST NEWS: I promised you an amazing contest and here it is! Hachette/Grand Central Books is generously contributing a complete set of the seven shifter novels in Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville series, including her upcoming release, Kitty's House of Horrors. They're also offering another five copies of the newest book. So six winners total!

Here's the book's description: "REALITY BITES Talk radio host and werewolf Kitty Norville has agreed to appear on TV's first all-supernatural reality show. She's expecting cheesy competitions and manufactured drama starring shapeshifters, vampires, and psychics. But what begins as a publicity stunt will turn into a fight for her life. The cast members, including Kitty, arrive at the remote mountain lodge where the show is set. As soon as filming starts, violence erupts and Kitty suspects that the show is a cover for a nefarious plot."

Visit Carrie Vaughn's website.

Read an excerpt from Kitty's House of Horrors.

To enter the contest: Kitty Norville's a werewolf with a job as a DJ. Just leave a comment telling me what supernatural character you'd like to see in what job. Would you like elves to take care of your dry cleaning? Do you think zombies would be good librarians? The contest runs through January 21 and winners will be picked in a random draw.

ReaganStar McBeigh interviews me about my Casa Dracula novels in her Author Spotlight feature at Star Shadow Creative. You can win one of my books, too. (I say the first book, but if you've already got that, I can offer one of the others.) "You have to do write because you love to write and not because you think it pays well, or you think you’ll get attention, or you think you’ll get a movie deal. That only happens if you manage to land a plane in the Hudson River."

Nicole Hadaway reviews Happy Hour at Casa Dracula at her Vampire Blogspot. "... delightfully clever and fun -- something I've been missing ever since Bridget Jones's Diary all those years ago." Thanks, Nicole!

My favorite line on the "Supernatural" rerun last night came from one of the Superfans to Sam Winchester: "Our passion was like a monkey on the sun -- too hot to live!"

Chris at Stumbling Over Chaos has an impressive list of news and links.
FYI, Chris is really the expert on all vampire and werewolf tunes and I'm going to try to post one of her playlists here as download soon.

Doug Knipe, SciFi Guy, has some awesome new covers to show us.

"Daybreakers" gets released today and the reviews are already, well, ambivalent. The San Francisco Chronicle says, "Some movies play better in a small screening room full of Fellini-loving critics, and others are best enjoyed in a packed house of inebriated yahoos. 'Daybreakers' is in the second category."

Here's the movie trailer. Personally, I have a policy of avoiding any movie with Ethan Hawke in it, but you may feel differently.

GRATUITOUS VIDEOS OF THE DAY

Here's one for "The Vampire Diaries" fans with the new pretty fanged boy, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).

And for the grown-ups...

This song made me lose at least half the dozen or so brain cells rattling around in my skull. Listen at your own peril.

A vampire as a night watchman or a shape-shifter as an undercover agent...it would be perfect : )

Vampires as night watchmen would be good if someone tried to break in they would just have a snack perhaps wipe their memory and send them on their way.

A ghost as a private eye. They could sneak in anywhere.

Shapeshifters as personal body guards.

I'd love to see a shapeshifter as a daycare worker, especially for shapeshifter kids! There's something so puppy-ish and uninhibited about kids anyway, I would imagine the hilarity can only increase...

Werewolf working as airline security...just a few sniffs and bam!!! cfisher1504 at gmail dot com

Heather C said...

I would have to say a witch as my maid and housekeeper. I'm thinking a few spells and everything would be all done.

Also, werewolves as movers would be great for all of the heavy lifting.

Anna Dougherty said...

Well, I wouldn't really want to see zombies in most jobs because they creep me out, but I would like to see a shifter (any sort) as a veterinarian. Just got a new puppy and I would love some help figuring out what goes on in that precocious little mind:)

BTW Loved the airline security suggestion!

What a bunch of great ideas! I especially like the witch as maid and housekeeper. If only!

Hi Marta :)
Thank you for the opportunity to win.
I like your question & the comments have some great original ideas!
:)
Mine would be a vampire astronaut.
:)

Emme Toaye said...

Make my doctor a Vampire, he could cure what ails anyone and give you a pretty good work over sans the pills.

Marta said...

Ruck, now that's just plain scary -- although Spike in clown gear, it would just be more humiliation for the poor bastard.

Tina, all you'd eat would be blood sausage/boudin noir if a vampire was your chef.

I do think weres would make good airline security guards. Then we could fly without the stupid "take off your shoes" and "you can't take that toothpaste" rules.

I would like to see a warewolf as a cleaning person. One swish of the tail and everything is dusted.

A vampire as massage therapist would be good. m-m-m-m ah-h-h Oh! I got carried away for a minute.

Great GVDs today!

What about a necromancer as a homicide detective? They could just "wake up" the victim, ask them who killed them and why, and then close the case. I imagine homicide rates would go down to nothing rather quickly.

I've got to go with vampire IRS auditors for the bloodsucking bastards jokes.

Marta said...

Buzzard, okay, that made me laugh out loud.

I just emailed Carrie and asked her to drop by if she has the chance. She may be tied up with deadlines.

A witch as a dating service provider.Love spells and all!!!

I'd have to say a vampire as a professional poker player. He could make the other players fold everytime and he'd become rich.

Amanda Leigh said...

I'd also like to see a shifter as a veterinarian. Though, if it was of the feline type then it might not get along w/ canines and so on and so forth. I love everyone's ideas!
Great contest!

I could see a zombie as a mortican. A vampire as a funeral director. A witch hosting a cooking show with Emeril Lagasse. A warlock predicting the weather aka meteorologist. A shapeshifter as an animal whisperer so they can change into any animal and understand their needs. A fairy as Cupid. A werewolf as a lead singer in a rock band. A ghost as a secret service agent. This was fun!

A werewolf as my personal chef because with his intense taste buds, he could f*cking rock the spices! Make me some killer stews!

Then I want a Vampire as a massage therapist because when I get migraines, I would like his cold hands to massage my temples and neck.

A fairy as a nanny because around fairies, my girls won't beat each other down like they do around 5/6pm each day.

What a great giveaway!

I'd like to see a werewolf as a doctor, put all those protective skills to good use.

Or

A vampire as a librarian, they've been around for centries, they have GOT to know some good books to read. :-)

Marta said...

Some of these are very inspired -- others are tragically deluded.

I like the vampire librarian idea! I can see one supervising children's feeding, uh, I mean READING hour.

A vampire therapist would be perfect! Cool, calm, detachted, and the mind erasing and control could be quite useful for curing many psychological issues.

And then I think ghost would make perfect spies or private detectives. They are vertually undetectable!

A Shifter massage therapist. A Fae cook. A Vampire historian (lets find out what really happened). And of course the ghost spies. Would all be fun.

I think I would like to see vampires as history or political science teachers. They have seen so much and can tell so much more than the history books. A shape-shifter as a primary teacher would work really well. They could also work really well as cops or undercover agents. I would love to have the power of a witch myself so with one spell, my house would always be clean.

Daelith said...

I like cfisher's idea of werewolves working airport security.

I'd like to see dragons as public transportation. That could make rush hour interesting.

Moonsanity said...

What a cool question! Let's see, vampires as private detectives is a given:) Lame slacker vamps would be good morgue employees. *snicker* I also think the employees in Hot Topic really are vamps!

P.S. Marta- we are watching the 1st Season of Supernatural on DVD again. So good!

Okay, I can see I waited way too long to comment. Some of my ideas (witch as housekeeper, zombie as mortician, shapeshifter as zookeeper) have already been used. (Great minds...) Is it too icky to suggest a vampire as a
phlebotomost? He would definitely know how to draw blood without causing too much pain. Or, how about an angel/demon duo as a pair of television law enforcers? It would be super easy for them to assume those good cop/bad cop roles.

Tynga said...

I already bought the latest book in the series cause it was so cheap on bookdeposiotry.com but I still need the rest of the series! lol

I'd like to see Succubus (with shapeshifting abilities) as actrice. I mean could it get any better? Assuming they have acting talents =P lol

Thanks for the giveaway!

I would like to see a shapeshifter as a marine biologist.

Marta said...

Hi, everyone! There are some great ideas here. I can see whole new series with these ideas. Although putting a vamp in charge of a blood bank is a little like putting an alcoholic in charge of a bar. Wait a minute ...that might work. Cheers, anyone?

Teresa said...

Thanks for the contest Marta. These ideas are so great. My favorite, vampire history professor. I could never make those early day classes anyway.A witch as bartender; herbs, potions and a sympathetic ear. Ghost as a tour guide on a historical walking tour, obviously!

Marta said...

Hi, Teresa, yep, Pam and Stephanie suggested a vampire history teacher. I would never be late for that class! However, how many students would object to "no dating" policies between students and professors?

Super awesome contest! Hey how about a vampire as a mercenary. There could be some cool connotations to that! Faeries? Hmm...how about an actress on a television show. If the ratings started to dip she could charm everyone into watching the show. Shapeshifters could be anything, scientists, CIA agents, nerds, etc. I just had to thrown in a nerd!

Raev1 said...

Don't think anyone has said this one yet. I'd like to see Werewolves working for homeland security. They could just stand as people went past at airports or major events and be able to smell the chemicals in bombs, drugs, anything that would endanger lives. They could even work in places like disaster areas to sniff out survivors. They would be great at those jobs!
